Many of the products we tested are fragrance-free, which means they have no "added" scent known as a fragrance or "parfum" in their formula. However, this does NOT mean they lack odor. Other products have added perfumes or fragrances designed to inspire feelings of freshness, cleanness, or "baby." Some baby lotions have what we call an offensive odor or a strong or lingering smell. We don't think babies need fragrances to smell amazing, and any introduction of scents just introduces more chemicals to the mix. And we believe that less is more when it comes to chemical additives since your skin absorbs everything to some degree.
The best feeling lotions on the skin in our tests include Babyganics, Puracy Baby Lotion, and Eucerin Baby Eczema Relief Body Cream. Each option absorbs quickly without excessive rubbing and feels soft and smooth with no stickiness or residue. They also didn't give any cooling or burning sensations to testers in our tests. The Puracy lotion includes lavender and grapefruit extracts and could irritate the skin if it is dry, burned, or cracked, but we didn't experience this. We recommend a patch test with any lotion you choose to be safe.
Lingering Fragrance Crack And Patch
The takeaway? Most manufacturers recommend (and we agree) a lotion patch test on your little one before you smear it everywhere. Using the lotion on yourself might provide some information. Still, every skin is different, and baby skin is typically more sensitive, so patch testing yourself is unlikely to provide all the information you need. Lotions with no fragrance felt better over time, and those that left skin feeling soft and smooth were preferable to our testers to those that left a sticky or slippery residue.
The most effective defense against cluster flies is sealing off their entrance avenues. However, as they can fit through extraordinarily tiny holes, this is very hard to do. To reduce the number of cluster flies that enter for the winter, patch, seal, or caulk every hole and crack you can find. Exclusion efforts should be performed in the summer before cluster flies begin to enter the structure. Even the most thorough exclusion job may not keep all cluster flies from gaining entry to your home. Consider using a good residual pesticide to kill the cluster flies before they penetrate your home. Follow the label carefully and apply the insecticide to windows, doors, soffits, eaves, and any other areas susceptible to cluster fly admission. If the label allows, you may also spray cluster fly resting places. This will knock the cluster flies down both before and while they attempt their entry to your home. Insecticide for cluster fly prevention should be utilized in mid to late summer before they get into your home. 2ff7e9595c
